President Donald Trump’s Campaign gained more momentum on Sunday after getting an endorsement from one of his arch-rivals in the GOP presidential race.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) dropped out of the race on Sunday and endorsed the former president for the White House. The governor, in a video posted to his X social media account, said he was endorsing Trump because the former president is a better candidate than President Joe Biden and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.

“If there was anything I could do to produce a favorable outcome — more campaign stops, more interviews — I would do it. But I can’t ask our supporters to volunteer their time and donate their resources if we don’t have a clear path to victory. Accordingly, I am today suspending my campaign,” DeSantis said before going on to endorse Trump. “It’s clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance. They watched his presidency get stymied by relentless resistance and they see Democrats using lawfare to this day to attack him. While I have had disagreements with Donald Trump, such as on the coronavirus pandemic and his elevation of Anthony Fauci, Trump is superior to the current incumbent, Joe Biden. That is clear. I signed a pledge to support the Republican nominee and I will honor that pledge. He has my endorsement because we can’t go back to the old Republican guard of yesteryear — a repackaged form of warmed-over corporatism — that Nikki Haley represents. The days of putting Americans last, of kowtowing to large corporations, of caving to woke ideology, are over.”

DeSantis’ announcement means Haley is now the only serious GOP candidate still standing against Trump as the Republican nominee for the 2024 presidential election. With Trump almost guaranteed to win the Nevada caucus, Haley’s campaign could be over if the former president wins New Hampshire’s GOP primary on Tuesday.

Trump told Fox News that he was “very honored” to have DeSantis’ endorsement and looking forward to working with the GOP governor to defeat Joe Biden.

“Very honored to have his endorsement,” Trump said. “I look forward to working together with him to beat Joe Biden, who is the worst and most corrupt president in the history of our country.”
