The corruption scandal surrounding President Joe Biden and his family took another drastic turn on Monday after reports emerged that the family was caught in the middle of an FBI bribery probe.

According to the Daily Caller News, the FBI secretly recorded conversations featuring President Joe Biden’s brother, James Biden, as part of a bribery probe into an attorney who paid $100,000 to James Biden’s consulting firm.

The FBI was investigating Mississippi trial attorney Richard Scruggs in a bribery case. Scruggs, in 1998, paid James Biden’s consulting firm Lion Hall Group $100,000 to help obtain then-Delaware Democratic Sen. Joe Biden’s support for tobacco-related legislation under consideration by Congress

The FBI was investigating Scruggs and his associates over a plan to pay a bribe of $40,00 to a local judge. During their probe, the FBI secretly recorded James Biden who was trying to set up a consulting firm with the Scruggs partners.

Scruggs told the Washington Post in an interview that he would not have hired James Biden’s consulting firm if he was not related to Joe Biden.

“I probably wouldn’t have hired him if he wasn’t the senator’s brother,” Scruggs said.

Joe Biden eventually backed the bill. However, the bill failed to pass Congress.

“Jim was never untoward about his influence,” Scruggs added. “He didn’t brag about it or talk about it. He didn’t have to. He was the man’s brother.”

Scruggs revealed that he did not know if James Biden spoke to his brother about backing the bill and how he should vote.

“But I hope he did,” Scruggs said.

The investigation led to Scruggs and his associates being convicted and sent to prison. Joe and James Biden were not accused of any wrongdoing.

Scruggs’ admission adds to the growing accusations of influence-peddling against the Biden family.

James Biden’s lawyer Paul Fishman told the Washington Post that his client has never spoken to his brother about his consulting jobs.

“Jim Biden’s consulting work has never involved speaking with or providing access to his brother for this or any other client,” Fishman said.

The White House did not respond to the outlet’s request for comment.
