A 19-year-old Israeli border police officer was killed in the occupied West Bank during a counterterror operation.

Shay Germay, 19, an officer in Israel’s Border Police, was killed overnight Saturday after a roadside bomb planted by terrorists near the West Bank city of Jenin struck her patrol vehicle.

According to The Times Of Israel, Israeli forces entered Jenin for a counterterrorism operation, when an explosive device planted on the side of a road hit the Border Police vehicle Germay occupied. One of Germay’s colleagues was seriously injured while two more suffered minor injuries.

Israeli Police confirmed the news of the 19-year-old’s death in a statement posted on X.

“The Israel Police mourn Sergeant Shai Germai, a Border Police officer who was killed by a terrorist roadside explosive during anti-terrorism operations in Jenin,” the statement reads. “The funeral for Shai, 19, from Karmiel, will be held today at 3:00 PM in the military section of the Karmiel cemetery. The Israel Police express deep sorrow and condolences to her family.”

A group of Palestinian gunmen showed up following the explosion and began shooting at first responders who were attempting to rescue the wounded officers. An attack helicopter responded to the scene and carried out an airstrike against the gunmen.

The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) confirmed that six terrorists were killed during the airstrike.

Jenin, which is under the control of the Palestinian Authority (PA), has been a hotbed for terror organizations as terrorists have entrenched themselves in the city. The IDF carried out a major 60-hour counterterrorism operation in the city last September, according to the Times of Israel.

During the operation, troops discovered 10 tunnel shafts, seven labs used to manufacture explosive devices and five war rooms used by local terror operatives to monitor IDF operations.

According to Breitbart News, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has refused to allow the PA to be part of the future government of post-Hamas Gaza because of its lack of action in Jenin. The PA refuses to crack down on terrorists using the city for their operations.
