FBI Director Kash Patel issued a firm statement Friday evening defending a female FBI agent who was wrongly identified as one of two “honeypots” allegedly involved in James Comey’s 2016 operation against then-candidate Donald Trump.

The statement follows Patel’s recent launch of an investigation into claims that former FBI Director Comey orchestrated a covert operation using two female undercover agents to infiltrate Trump’s 2016 campaign, as reported by The Washington Times.

The allegations emerged last October when an FBI whistleblower revealed that Comey had allegedly placed two female agents within the Trump campaign, instructing them to act as “honeypots” and accompany Trump and his campaign staff during their travels.

This operation was reportedly conducted separately from the well-known Crossfire Hurricane investigation, which began in July 2016 and investigated alleged Russian collusion. According to sources, one of the undercover agents was later transferred to the CIA, potentially preventing her from being called as a witness, while the other received a promotion to a senior FBI position.

Addressing the situation, Patel strongly defended the wrongly accused agent’s reputation.

“The American people will get an FBI that is transparent, accountable, and committed to justice. Just like when I exposed grotesque violations and fraud leading the House Intelligence Committee’s investigation into Crossfire Hurricane calling out corrupt actors; I will equally defend those attacked falsely, especially as your new FBI Director. A female agent was falsely referenced in the media this week as part of an alleged whistleblower disclosure—she was NOT a honeypot,” Kash Patel said.

“I have reviewed the matter, again, and she did the limited job assigned to her. These actions were also reviewed by Special Counsel John Durham and he found no evidence of any wrongdoing by her. This agent has dedicated her life to public service, and I will have her back for it. I will always be the first to push for accountability from within, my track record has established that, but we do not establish guilt by association in this FBI. Stay the course and abide by our high standards, and I will always have your back. Deviate in any way, and you will not be a part of this FBI. She is here to stay,” Patel said.
