Vice President Kamala Harris found herself in an infidelity saga after her husband made shocking revelations.

Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, Harris’ husband, admitted to cheating on his first wife, film producer Kerstin Emhoff, with their children’s nanny. In a statement to CNN, Emhoff acknowledged that his actions caused “tough times” for the family, but they addressed the issues together and emerged stronger.

“During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times on account of my actions,” Emhoff said in his statement. “I took responsibility, and in the years since, we worked through things as a family and have come out stronger on the other side.”

According to the DailyMail, Emhoff’s affair with the couple led to a pregnancy. It, however, remains unclear if the nanny actually gave birth to the baby.

A “close friend” disclosed to the outlet that the nanny did not end up keeping the baby from the affair, according to the Daily Mail.

When approached at her home in the Hamptons, the nanny expressed being “kind of freaked out” and declined to comment further. During the time of the affair, she was working as a teaching assistant and teacher at the Willows Community School in Culver City, California, as well as a nanny for Emhoff’s daughter, Ella. The school, catering to kindergarten through eighth grade, has tuition ranging from $32,525 to $41,535 annually.

Stacey Brooks, a friend of the nanny who had twin boys around the same time the nanny would have been expecting, confirmed the affair and pregnancy but withheld further details without the nanny’s consent. According to the outlet, a video on the nanny’s Facebook shows three babies: Sawyer and George, Brook’s children born in July 2009, and an unidentified third baby. It’s not clear who the father of the third baby is.

Kerstin issued a statement defending her former husband and their relationship.

“Doug and I decided to end our marriage for a variety of reasons, many years ago,” Kerstin said in her statement. “He is a great father to our kids, continues to be a great friend to me and I am really proud of the warm and supportive blended family Doug, Kamala, and I have built together.”
