Bill Maher, host of HBO’s “Real Time,” has warned Democrats that their approach to immigration could lead to electoral defeat in November.

He pointed to a pattern in Europe where unrestricted immigration led to electoral defeats, which he believes will repeat itself in the U.S. Maher criticized President Joe Biden’s revival of former president Donald Trump’s asylum ban, saying it undermines American values.

The HBO host emphasized that Democrats need to address the issue of immigration numbers, which they avoid doing because of the fear of being labeled racist. He believes that not addressing the immigration numbers will hurt Democrats in the elections, as it did in Europe and with Brexit.

“By reviving Trump’s asylum ban, Biden has undermined American values,” Maher said. “And then they all stand back and go. We don’t want to be called a racist. So we will not make a move on to immigration.”

According to the New York Post, Maher thinks Biden’s border executive order is a political “Hail Mary” that won’t work. He further noted that immigration, along with Biden’s age, will be a major factor in political defeat.

“If Biden loses this election, it’s going to be because of two things, he’s old and immigration,” Maher said. “I mean, just on a political level, I don’t think they could have handled it worse.”

According to the outlet, Maher quoted political commentator David Frum, who said that if liberals equate border enforcement with fascism, voters will elect fascists to do the job.

The “Real Time” host argued that voters are uncomfortable with high immigration levels, and it is not racist to acknowledge this.

“Voters keep saying over and over again we are not comfortable with this level of immigration. I understand why. It doesn’t make you a racist to say that,” Maher said.

Maher cited polls showing that 64% of Latinos and 62% of registered voters support border control and deportation of illegal immigrants.

“The question that Democrats don’t seem to be able to have the audacity to answer is just how many is too many?” Maher said. “And, like, infinity is the answer- if you don’t give that answer, you’re a racist. That’s their essential problem with this issue.”
