Special Counsel Jack Smith has initiated steps to withdraw both federal cases against President Trump, as Trump prepares an aggressive strategy to dismantle Smith’s prosecutorial team.

Following the dismissal of both the January 6 and classified documents cases, Smith’s investigators are now seeking legal representation in Washington DC.

According to CNN reporting, one former high-ranking White House official revealed widespread anxiety among White House staff and federal agency employees about potential prosecution under a future Trump administration for perceived opposition to the president-elect.

CNN further reported that numerous prominent DC attorneys have received inquiries from government officials, including members of Smith’s investigative team, expressing concerns about possible targeting by Trump’s incoming administration.

Recent reports indicate Trump’s intention to completely overhaul Smith’s prosecution team and redirect the Justice Department’s focus toward investigating the 2020 election results.

“President-elect Donald Trump plans to fire the entire team that worked with special counsel Jack Smith to pursue two federal prosecutions against the former president, including career attorneys typically protected from political retribution,” WaPo reported last month.

“Trump is also planning to assemble investigative teams within the Justice Department to hunt for evidence in battleground states that fraud tainted the 2020 election,” WaPo reported.

Smith’s prosecution team, funded by taxpayers, operated with minimal public visibility and exceeded Mueller’s team size by twofold. For comparison, Mueller’s investigation employed twelve Democratic-leaning prosecutors, including Hillary Clinton supporters, who scrutinized Trump for two years.

The incoming Trump administration should identify and terminate every prosecutor from Smith’s team publicly.
