Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) proposed a debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, suggesting she might not be aware she is the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee.
Speaking in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, on Wednesday, Vance commented on Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Harris’s recently announced running mate, stating that Walz had “a lot of skeletons” that were “coming out of the closet today.”
“Here’s my offer to Kamala Harris,” Vance said. “If she’d like to do a debate with me on August 13th, I’ll do it. Right? We should do that, right? I don’t think she wants to anymore because one, she probably doesn’t even know that she’s going to be the Democratic nominee, and two, we don’t know who the vice presidential nominee is going to be either. He’s got a lot of skeletons that are coming out of the closet today, and we’ll see if the Democrats pull a bait and switch on Tim Walz or on Kamala Harris, just like they did with Joe Biden.”

Walz has faced criticism from veterans and accusations of stolen valor after it was revealed that his website biography listed a higher military rank than the one he retired with.
Vance blasted Walz for lying about his war record. The GOP senator maintained that he would be ashamed if he had lied about his military service.

“He was making a point about gun control. He said we shouldn’t allow weapons ‘that I used in war’ to be on America’s streets,” Vance said. “Well, I wonder, Tim Walz, when were you ever in war? When was this? What was this weapon that you carried into war, given that you abandoned your unit right before they went to Iraq? And he has not spent a day in a combat zone. What bothers me about Tim Walz is the Stolen Valor garbage. Do not pretend to be something that you’re not. And if he wants to criticize me for getting an Ivy League education, I’m proud of the of the fact that my Mamaw supported me, that I was able to make something of myself. I’d be ashamed if I was him and I lied about my military service like he did,” he said.
