Biden Befriending CHINESE Businesses

Chinese corporations have been drawn to Delaware by a Biden appointee who has contributed tens of thousands of dollars to his campaigns and is married to a senior former staffer to then-Sen. Biden.

In 2022, Biden nominated Michael Marquardt to the U.S. Commission for Preserving America’s Heritage Abroad. Marquardt has advised foreign corporations for the past 20 years, and he has recently assisted the Delaware Prosperity Partnership (DPP) in luring Chinese investors to Delaware.

Marquardt has been a “global advisor” for DPP since 2017. On social media, he has showcased his efforts in bringing Chinese enterprises and business executives to Delaware.

In a 2015 Facebook post, Marquardt stated, “Today we welcomed more than 50 of the Chinese business executives to The First State, a visit planned and sponsored by Bank of China.” Following a presentation emphasizing Delaware’s advantages as a “gateway to America,” we took a tour of Incyte Corporation, one of the nation’s fastest-growing businesses. Our guests were really pleased. Other than New York City and Washington, DC, they travel solely to Delaware for sightseeing.”

Marquardt wrote about Biden from New York City on his Facebook page a day earlier. Then, Gov. of Delaware Jack Markell received “the International Leadership Award from China’s General Chamber of Commerce at Bank of China’s new US headquarters building in Manhattan at 7 Bryant Park.”

Using funds from Delaware, Marquardt boasted on Facebook the same year about “the expansion of a China summer abroad program for high school students studying Mandarin.” Additionally, he tweeted, “#ForwardThinkingDelaware.”

In 2015, Marquardt posted on X with the caption, “And today we welcomed 2 buses w/Chinese business execs to @DelawareGlobal to learn more about the First State,” and a picture of what seemed to be buses carrying Chinese business executives.

Marquardt said on Facebook in 2016—the last year of the Obama-Biden administration—that he was at a “very special event” in New York City that ” celebrated the strengthening business ties between China and the United States.”

“Global Delaware front and center once again!” he said.

Marquardt shared images from the China-US Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference, where Hu Chunhua, then a party secretary of Guangdong Province and a member of the influential political bureau of the CPC Central Committee, gave the keynote address.

As vice-chairperson of the 14th CPPCC National Committee, Chunhua is part of China’s United Front system, a “central part” that seeks to “co-opt and neutralize sources of potential opposition to the policies and authority of its ruling Chinese Communist Party (CCP),” according to a 2018 report by the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission.
