Sorry Dems, No DO-OVERS
This summer, the Democratic Party—hailed as the saviors of democracy—was prepared to toss out all the rules in order to ensure that voters would continue to support them. Regretfully, the calendar does not work in their favor.
Democrats and their media allies started kicking about the notion of altering the primary rules just four months before the general election was set to conclude.
This last week, two prominent Democrats announced a plan to basically redo the race, calling for a “blitz primary.” Prior to the convention on August 19, candidates, including Vice President Kamala Harris, would have one month to campaign before Democratic National Committee delegates. Weekly star-studded candidate forums would take place. At the convention, ranked-choice voting would be used to choose the nominee.
It’s a completely new procedure that was created on the spot. One that aims to keep the party in power by denying its own supporters the right to vote. And because Biden has made it plain that he’s not going away, at least not right now, that means they’ll need to figure out an extra-constitutional way to remove a sitting president of their own party.
This attempt won’t succeed. You do not get to retake your primary because of a botched argument or an unexpected revelation of the truth. When it appears like you won’t win, you don’t get to alter the rules. They are compelled to use Biden-Harris. Since the debate revealed Democrats’ deceit, far too many voters have had enough of their gaslighting, dishonesty, and exaggeration in the public and private spheres. For many voters (except those who watch Fox News, of course), the debate was an epiphany. You could all have predicted this a mile away. The truth that Democrats have been trying so hard to conceal has been exposed since the debate.
Should people now show a newfound cynicism toward the party that ridiculously claims to be able to preserve democracy, they have only themselves to blame.
This is close to the finish line, and the idea of amending the main rules is blatantly antithetical to democracy. Democrats intentionally rigged the primaries the previous time around thus, it is unjust to propose creating a completely new system, not to mention the other contenders that followed the guidelines.
