VP Rep J.D. Vance is TRUMP’S PICK
Despite being a new senator, the Republican vice presidential contender has years of experience outside of politics, which could help the party in November.
JD Vance of Ohio was selected by former President Donald Trump on Monday to be his running mate. Vance is a former Marine, a Yale Law School graduate, the New York Times bestselling author of Hillbilly Elegy, and he was just elected to the United States Senate in 2022.
“I have determined that Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio is the most qualified individual to hold the office of Vice President of the United States,” Trump said on his social media account, Truth Social.
The former president said, “J.D. has had a very successful business career in Technology and Finance.” However, Vance had a prosperous career as a venture investor before pursuing politics. According to Yahoo Finance, Vance’s connections in Silicon Valley first helped him attract investment capital to Ohio, where he later supported his Senate race and has already made contributions to the Trump campaign.
Vance relocated to San Francisco in 2013 upon receiving his law degree from Yale, where he was employed by Mithril Capital, a company that was co-founded by Republican contributor and former PayPal CEO Peter Thiel, according to the site. During his early career, Vance also worked for Revolution LLC, the venture capital firm founded by former AOL CEO Steve Case, in the nation’s capital. There, according to Yahoo, he oversaw an initiative to increase financing prospects in tiny communities like Middletown, Ohio, the birthplace of Vance.
2017 saw Case say, “J.D. Vance has become a leading voice for people across the country who feel left behind, so he is the perfect person to help us expand Rise Of The Rest,” the publication said.
2020 saw Vance open his own fund in Cincinnati, allegedly with support from Scott Dorsey, Marc Andreessen, and Eric Schmidt. According to Yahoo, the company was established to assist in rerouting significant East Coast funds into investment prospects in areas such as Ohio.
Vance collaborated with billionaire investor David Sacks to plan a Trump campaign fundraiser earlier this year. Trump’s first trip to San Francisco in years was made possible by that event, which was held at Sacks’ house and added $12 million to his reelection fund. When Vance met with Fox News’ Lawrence Jones in June, the latter asked him what a “JD Vance economy” might entail. “A lot more manufacturing jobs than we have right now,” he stated. “If you look, the economies that are really, truly thriving have a solid industrial base. They are growing their own vitality.”
