Initially dismissing it as a severe headache, Foxx sought medical attention in Georgia. The first doctor merely administered a cortisone shot, prompting Foxx’s frustrated response: “What the f–k is that? I don’t know if you can do Yelps for doctors, but that’s half a star.”
His sister, Deidra Dixon, then rushed him to Piedmont Hospital, where medical professionals delivered devastating news. “He’s having a brain bleed that has led to a stroke. If I don’t go in his head right now, we’re going to lose him,” the doctor informed Dixon.
Post-surgery, doctors cautioned about a challenging recovery period, telling Dixon, “We didn’t find where it was coming from, but he is having a stroke. He may be able to make a full recovery but it’s going to be the worst year of his life.”
During the ordeal, Foxx described experiencing an unusual sense of peace in a warm tunnel, jokingly adding, “S–t, am I going to the wrong place in this motherf–ker? Because I looked at the end of the tunnel, and I thought I saw the devil like, ‘Come on.'”

The actor regained consciousness after 20 days, confused to find himself wheelchair-bound. His daughter Corinne had initially described the incident as a “medical complication” in April 2023, later confirming his hospital discharge and rehabilitation in Chicago.
Despite the severity of his condition, Foxx recovered sufficiently to walk Corinne down the aisle at her September wedding, following her engagement celebration at the rehabilitation facility.
The intimate details of his health journey are now available on his Netflix special.
