Following the assassination attempt of former President Trump, many have come out publicly to dismiss the violence.
In a post to his social media accounts on Sunday, Trump implored Americans to “stand United” and not allow “Evil to Win.”
“Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers yesterday, as it was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening,” Trump wrote. “We will FEAR NOT, but instead remain resilient in our Faith and Defiant in the face of Wickedness.”
The gunman was immediately shot by law enforcement at the same time that the first shots sounded. Sadly, one rally-goer was killed and many others injured.
Trump then added, “Our love goes out to the other victims and their families. We pray for the recovery of those who were wounded, and hold in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly killed.”
The incident has since sent shockwaves across the United States and overseas.
Moments before Trump was to take the stage, a local police officer confronted that would-be assassin as he fired multiple rounds from an assault-type rifle at Trump. The officer made his way to the roof of a nearby building and saw the shooter on the ground but retreated back down after he trained his weapon at him.
Law enforcement also said that Thomas Matthew Crooks had explosives in his car.
President Joe Biden said he instructed an “expeditious” independent examination into the safety situation at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania where Trump Was attacked. The president also said Sunday he had spoken with Trump post-assassination attempt to wish him well and a speedy recovery.
At least $2 million and counting have been raised for victims and families affected by a failed assassination attempt on the former president. Among the largest donors are singer Kid Rock and UFC president Dana White who each gave $50,0000; former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy helped him with a donation of $30,000.
Despite the danger, Trump still plans to travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for the Republican National Convention on Monday as previously planned.
