Former U.S. attorney Joyce Vance stated on Monday that there is no chance of former President Donald Trump’s trial in Washington, D.C., occurring before the November election.
Trump faces four felony charges related to alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan canceled the initially scheduled March trial date while Trump’s immunity appeal was still pending. Speaking on “Morning Joe,” Vance mentioned that the Supreme Court’s ruling on Trump’s appeal ensures that the trial will not take place before the election.
“There’s absolutely no chance this one is getting to trial, Jonathan,” Vance told host Jonathan Lemire. “And that’s because the way the Supreme Court structured this decision, Judge Chutkan will make her rulings and if she permits any of the charges to go forward, any of the allegations in the indictment to remain in place, indicates that the government can use any of this evidence, despite Trump’s claims that it’s all now cloaked in presidential immunity, there will be a round two appeal. Because the way immunity works, and the Supreme Court makes this clear, is the whole point of having immunity is you shouldn’t have to stand trial for charges that you have immunity from. So Trump will inevitably take objection to anything that she permits to move forward … This case will not happen quickly. This case will not happen quickly.”

Trump is also facing criminal charges in Georgia over the 2020 elections. However, the appeals court ordered Judge Scott McAfee in June to halt all proceedings pending its coming ruling on the defendants’ effort to disqualify Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.
CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig insisted that there was no way the case would go to trial before the election.
“What was surprising was yesterday’s announcement when the court of appeals said, ‘okay, trial court, while we’re taking this case over the next several months, everything stops down there and .. this is an important point, when the trial judge issued his ruling, he said, ‘okay, defendants, Donald Trump and others, you can try to take this up to the appeals court, but while that’s all happening, we’re going to carry on here with our normal pretrial business.’ Now that’s all paused,” Honig said. “Now there’s no way this case gets tried before the end of 2024, may not get tried ever if Donald Trump and the other defendants win on this appeal.”
CNN legal analyst Elie Honig just called out the rigged Trump case and Judge Juan Merchan.
Elie Honig accused Merchan of committing crimes and called the trial an “unjustified mess.”
