Authorities have arrested popular rapper Nicki Minaj at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands on Saturday. The 41-year-old Trinidadian singer and rapper was detained on her way to Manchester, where she had been booked to perform at C0-op live.

The rapper was allegedly arrested for carrying drugs despite denying the claims. In a statement posted on X, the Dutch National Police Agency wrote that a 41-year-old American woman who was arrested on suspicion of exporting soft drugs was fined, released from custody, and allowed to continue her journey.

While the Dutch police statement did not mention the rapper’s name as the suspect in question, Minaj made a series of posts and videos on social media and even went on Instagram Live to narrate the incident.

In the first video posted by the rapper, an official could be seen saying they wanted to take the rapper into custody for carrying drugs. However, the rapper denied the claims and requested a lawyer before entering the van.

In a series of posts on X, the rapper claimed that the arrest was a plot by her enemies to obstruct her Pink Friday Tour and her performance in Manchester.

“They are being paid big money to sabotage my tour because so many people are mad that it’s this successful, and they can’t eat off me,” she wrote. “They got caught stealing money from my travel hets. Got fired. Got mad.”

A few minutes later, Minaj posted that weed is legal in Amsterdam. Then, an hour later, the rapper repeatedly denied the allegations in another post on X.

“Now they said they found weed and that another group of people have to come here to weigh the pre-rolls,” she wrote. “Keep in mind they took my bags without consent. My security has already advised them those pre-rolls belong to him. Oh yeah, the pilots want me to take my IG post down.”

Hours after Minaj’s arrest, Co-op Live, the arena where the rapper was supposed to perform, announced that the show had been canceled. However, tickets will remain valid for a rescheduled concert.

“Despite Nicki’s effort to explore every possible avenue to make tonight’s show happen, the events of the day have made it impossible,” Co-op Live tweeted. “We are deeply disappointed by the inconvenience this has caused. More information will be available at your point of purchase.”

The hashtag #FreeNicki also trended on X.
