Police are investigating the death of a 23-year-old Maryland tourist who was discovered deceased at a Bahamas beach resort shortly after arriving for a family vacation, with his mother alleging he was brutally attacked.
Dinari McAlmont from Bowie, Maryland, checked into the Atlantis Paradise Island resort with his parents on April 4. After having dinner with his family that evening, McAlmont stepped away around 9 p.m., telling his parents he was going to retrieve a jacket and explore the property.
Resort staff later approached his mother inquiring about his whereabouts, claiming he had allegedly spit on employees inside one of their restaurants. Michelle McAlmont spoke with police who confirmed they were searching for her son due to the reported spitting incident. She indicated she was unable to track his phone location before reporting him missing.

The following morning at approximately 5:30 a.m., authorities located McAlmont’s body along Paradise Island’s shoreline showing “no vital life signs,” according to the Royal Bahamas Police Force. Officials have launched an investigation but are withholding judgment on whether the death was a homicide pending autopsy results.
“When I looked at the photo they showed me, my son was beaten; he was traumatized,” Michelle McAlmont told Bahamian outlet Eyewitness News.
She described the devastating experience of viewing photos of her son’s body, noting facial injuries, foam around his mouth, and sand in his hair. “That tells me they beat my son down in the sand. I need justice for my baby. I need justice,” she added.
Speaking to Fox 5 Washington DC, the grieving mother expressed her emotional turmoil: “What could I have done differently to protect my child and keep him safe, that he would be alive today.”

While the investigation continues, McAlmont’s parents are seeking legal representation specializing in international relations. The resort issued a statement to Fox 5 Washington DC confirming their cooperation with law enforcement.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of one of our guests. Our thoughts and condolences are with the guest’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. This is an active police investigation, and we are fully cooperating,” the statement read.
The incident occurs amid heightened safety concerns for American travelers to the Bahamas. The US Department of State recently issued a level 2 advisory warning of serious crimes against tourists, particularly in Nassau and Freeport, including armed robberies, burglaries, and sexual assaults.
