Former President Donald Trump on Thursday slammed President Joe Biden after the president appeared to compare the ongoing antisemitic riots on university campuses to those of the Charlottesville protest.

Biden, In a Tuesday appearance at the Earth Day Event in Northern Virginia, told reporters he condemns the antisemitic riots. The president, however, added that he also condemns those who don’t understand what is going on in Palestine.

“I condemn the antisemitic protests,” Biden said. “That’s why I’ve set up a program to deal with that. I also condemn those who don’t understand what’s going on with the Palestinians.”

According to Breitbart News, Biden’s statement raised fierce backlash from many who argued that he was equating the riot with the Charlottesville protest of 2017. Some went as far as accusing Biden of echoing Trump’s “very fine people on both sides” Charlottesville comment.

Trump criticized Biden for his comments, with the former president describing his successor as incompetent.

“This is somebody that shouldn’t be doing what he’s doing. He was talking about Charlottesville,” Trump said. “Charlottesville was a little peanut and was nothing compared to the kind of hate that you have here. This is tremendous hate, and we have a man that can’t talk about it. He has no idea how to message. He can’t speak. He can’t put two sentences together. He doesn’t know what to do.”

Trump, in 2017, said there were very fine people on both sides in a discussion about the rallies and protests in Charlottesville.

“You have some very bad people in that group. But you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides,” Trump said. “You had people in that group. I saw the same pictures as you did.”

Trump’s comment sparked wide criticism after the media deceptively edited his statement to make it seem like he called white supremacists “fine people.”

Biden has frequently cited Trump’s comments regarding the Charlottesville protest as what convinced him to run for president in 2020.

Meanwhile, the former president slammed Biden on his Truth Social app on Wednesday for claiming that he ran for president in 2020 because of the Charlottesville hoax.

“Crooked Joe Biden would say, constantly, that he ran because of Charlottesville. Well, if that’s the case, he’s done a terrible job because Charlottesville is like a “peanut” compared to the riots and anti-Israel protests that are happening all over our Country,” Trump wrote.
