Vance FIRES BACK at Harris
During his first stop on the campaign trail in Grand Rapids, the Republican nominee for vice president J.D. Vance took aim at Vice President Kamala Harris.
“Kamala Harris, the vice president, doesn’t like me,” Vance said to the assembly on Saturday. Kamala Harris remarked, “I have no loyalty to this country,” or something to that effect.
He remarked, “Well, I don’t know Kamala.” “I did build a business and serve in the United States Marine Corps.” What on earth have you done besides pick up a check? We must give her credit, my friends—during the worst open border crisis our nation has ever experienced, she did hold the position of border czar. Let’s send President Trump back there, seal the border, and restore security and common sense to our nation.
Attending the former president Donald Trump’s first rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, a few hours away from the scene of the assassination attempt last week, Vance thought back on the previous seven days, which included Trump appointing the 39-year-old senator from Ohio as his running mate on Monday during the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
Warming up the crowd at Van Andel Arena in downtown Grand Rapids for the former president, Vance said, “I find it hard to believe that a week ago, an assassin tried to take his life and now we’ve got a hell of a crowd in Michigan to welcome him back on the campaign trail.”
“I’m just so lucky and so appreciative to be up here,” he continued, addressing the assembled audience and denouncing the media’s portrayal of Trump as “radical” and “dangerous.”
“Seeing my name on those signs still feels a little strange,” Vance remarked. “What an amazing award, what a wonderful honor. You consider my upbringing and the fact that no one in my immediate family attended college. Now, however, I am able to represent our ticket in the wonderful state of Michigan and have the chance to win your support in order to become the next vice president of the United States. What a wonderful nation this is.
Though Ohio State University and the University of Michigan are rivals, the Trump campaign picked Grand Rapids as the location for Vance’s first event in the hopes that supporters in the Midwest would be drawn to his Ohio background. The blue wall states of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin will determine the outcome of President Joe Biden’s candidacy, should he decide to run. In these states, Biden trails Trump in the polls but does better than in Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada.
Vance remarked, “We have to win Michigan, that’s the most important thing in this election cycle,” before promising his “Ohio brethren” that he would “respect” Michigan by remaining silent in the face of their cries.
Monday is Vance’s first solo rally, taking place in his hometown of Middletown, Ohio. Though talks are still underway, he is anticipated to debate Harris on CBS either this month or the following month.
