In a devastating incident, a Russian drone attack on a residential area in Odesa, Ukraine, claimed one life and left 13 others injured, according to local officials on Saturday. The attack coincided with the arrival of EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell in Kyiv to discuss European support for Ukraine.

Odesa’s regional governor, Oleh Kiper, reported damage to high-rise buildings, private homes, and warehouses due to the drone’s impact. He did not specify whether air defenses had intercepted the drone.

Ukraine’s Air Force successfully shot down 32 Russian drones across 10 regions, while 18 were reportedly “lost,” likely due to electronic jamming.

In the northeastern Kharkiv province, a Russian aerial bomb struck a busy highway overnight, as reported by Mayor Ihor Terekohov, though no casualties were mentioned.

Ukrainian officials are calling for increased Western support to counter Russia’s intensified aerial campaign. However, uncertainty looms over future U.S. assistance, given former President Donald Trump’s past criticism of aid to Ukraine and his praise for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Upon his arrival in Kyiv, Borrell reaffirmed European support for Ukraine, stating on X, “EU support to Ukraine has been my personal priority during my mandate and will remain on top of the EU’s agenda.”

Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed to have destroyed 50 Ukrainian drones over seven Russian regions, with more than half intercepted over the Bryansk region bordering Ukraine.
