A New York mother’s tragic decision to end her life and the lives of her children at Niagara Falls has been revealed through security footage analysis. State Park Police confirmed the heartbreaking sequence of events that unfolded at Luna Park, near the falls’ crest.

According to State Police, 9-year-old Roman Rossman was the first to enter the water, followed by his 5-month-old sibling, Mecca Means. Their mother, 33-year-old Chianti Means, then jumped after them. Trooper James O’Callaghan, State Police Public Information Officer, stated during a press conference that this act was believed to be intentional.

The incident occurred on October 28, 2024, when Chianti reportedly caused her children to fall over a railing into the falls before taking her own life. Eyewitnesses alerted authorities at 9:30 p.m., prompting a response from State and Park Police officers to Goat Island.

Investigators revealed that Chianti had climbed over a four-foot guardrail at Luna Island to reach the precipice. While the motive remains unclear, authorities are exploring whether mental health issues played a role in this tragic event.

The State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation is conducting a thorough probe, though no charges are expected to be filed. Both fathers of the children are cooperating with investigators as they seek answers to this devastating incident.

As of now, the bodies of the victims have not been recovered, leaving many questions unanswered in the wake of this heart-wrenching tragedy.
